On Friday the 19th June 2015 Miss Church and Mrs Amer had the pleasure of accompanying our Year 6 children to London. Prior to the trip the children had planned what they wanted to see and do and also fundraised to cover the total cost of the trip. We left Beccles Station bright and early and the children entertained many of the other passengers on the journey: so many adults commented what a delightful bunch of children they were. On arrival at Liverpool Street Station we caught the Tube to the British Museum and visited a special exhibition entitled ‘Ancient Luves, New Discoveries.’ The exhibition contained a number of Egyptian mummies and explained how new technology was able to tell us more about the artefacts.
We then walked to Hamleys along the very busy Oxford Street, Spencer did not think he had seen so many people in the whole of his life before! The children had a great time exploring the five floors of toys and games. After spending a little too long shopping, we raced to Downing Street. Eden had written a letter asking David Cameron whether he would like to visit our school and although he was unable to come, he did send an invite to the Year 6 children to give them special access to Downing Street. We were met by some very jolly policemen who ran their important security checks before they deemed us fit to enter. You can imagine our surprise when suddenly George Osbourne came walking along the road with his red budget case. He spoke with the children and even allowed us to have our photograph taken with him outside Number 11. He showed us the Prime Minister’s car which we were all very envious of – perhaps one day….. The policemen were so kind and spent a long time with us telling us about the history of Downing Street and Number 10. Then we walked across the Thames, passing the Houses of Parliament on the way. After a quick ice cream and play in the park, we boarded the London Eye and saw many of London’s famous landmarks.
Our final destination was Chinatown – YUMMY! We all had a special Chinese buffet and after filling our stomachs it was time to return home. We finally arrived back in Beccles at 10.30 p.m. Miss Church would like to say a HUGE thank you to all of the parents for supporting our fundraising and a special thank you to Mrs Amer who took the day off to help. The children were an absolute credit to the school and it really was a perfect day out!
